Open Coffee Mornings

If you’re working in the creative or digital industries, Old Broadcasting House will be opening it’s doors for you to come hang out, chat, demo or just network with others… usually around 25-30 people each month… sometimes more.

Tea, coffee and cakes are available from about 10am until 12pm. You are more than welcome to stay and chat as long as you like! This is a great opportunity to meet like-minded people within the creative, digital industries and network in a relaxed and friendly environment. Feel free to come along, Open Coffee is held on the first Tuesday of every month.

How to Find Us

Why not come and visit us here at Old Broadcasting House, 148 Woodhouse Lane, Leeds LS2 9EN. If you are driving, the nearest car park is the Woodhouse Lane NCP multi storey found at LS1 3HQ. Please be aware that the opening hours are 7am to 9pm Monday to Saturday.

If you are driving to an evening event here, you are advised not to park at the NCP as if you return after 9pm, your car will be locked in. Free parking is available afer 4:30 pm on weekdays opposite Old Broadcasting House at the Leeds Met and Leeds University staff car parks. (more…)

Where

Old Broadcasting House, has been the landmark for film production for decades. After many years as a base for the BBC, this listed building has been beautifully refurbished and represents a stunning coming together of history and technology. The building’s 21st century purpose is now to act as the focus of enterprise at Leeds Metropolitan University. (more…)

OpenCoffee December 2009

If you’re working in the creative or digital industries, Old Broadcasting House will be opening it’s doors for you to come hang out, chat, demo or just network with others… usually around 25-30 people each month… sometimes more.

On Tuesday 1st December, tea and coffee will be available from 10am til 12pm, and will include lots of Cake!

Apple News and New Courses

November has been a busy month for us moving over to the new Apple courses. The Snow 101 Support Essentials has become our current best seller, with November’s course full well in advance. If you haven’t already booked, we’ve got availibility in 2010. The first delivery of Snow 201 Server Essentials is happening on 30th November. We’ve also run the first couple of deliveries of the new Final Cut Pro 101 v7 course, welcoming back Chris Roberts to Old Broadcasting House. (more…)

Agile Yorkshire at Old Broadcasting House - 09/12/09

Agile Yorkshire have announced that the end of year special gathering will be held next month at Old Broadcasting House on Wednesday 9 December from 6.30pm onwards. Agile Yorkshire will gather together IT professionals in and around Yorkshire for a Christmas special with guest speaker David Joyce presenting on Kanban for Software Engineering, and how the principle of Kanban and Lean can also result in becoming Agile.

Discussion around extreme programming and agile methods amongst a host of other IT issues will feature as usual. (more…)

Ingres Open Day Workshop

On Wednesday 2nd December from 10am till 2pm, Ingres Corporation will be hosting an Open Source workshop. The leading provider of open source information management services, will present Mike Flower, the Director of Education at Ingres who will be hosting a FREE one day workshop at Old Broadcasting House. This is a unique opportunity for you to experience industry training and appreciate the application of technology.

The workshop is open to everyone, and is of particular interest to those in areas related to:

 -  Databases
 -  Application Development
 -  OpenSOURCE
 -  JBOSS

Break out sessions to the Ingres products supporting these areas will be available.

Expo Leeds Unconference

The first Expo Leeds unconference for sound art and experimental music launched at Old Broadcasting House on 25 September to kick off the Expo Leeds weekend festival. The unconference explored exciting, ground-breaking, experimental practices in music and sound creation, including digital technologies, research and live demos, with speakers coming from around the world. Discussions sparked questions from the wide range of people in attendance to find out more about what™s new in the world of creative sound. (more…)

Light Night 2009

The spectacular annual Light Night arts event takes place in Leeds city centre on Friday 9th October and Old Broadcasting House is no exception. ‘Electric Pets’ by Louise Atkinson and Innovation Showcase coworker Chris Martin, will exhibit their creatures knitted from wire who intercept unheard signals from the atmosphere and translate them into sound. These newfound electric pets will be free to play with by all who attend. At Temple Works™ fellow coworkers Dave Lynch, Stuart Childs & Scott Towler will take you on a tour through the secret spaces, and the exhibition of workers’ “Final Days“. (more…)

Animation Showcase

On Thursday 17th September from 6.30 - 8.30pm, Animated Yorkshire will host an Animation Showcase at Old Broadcasting House , including a screening of the short film “Sounds Like Bradford”, with an opportunity to find out more from the animators involved in this production for Bradford City of Film. 6 animators were given just 15 seconds of a soundscape of Bradford, and each asked to interpret it in their own unique way. nti Works welcomes new graduates

nti is pleased to welcome it™s latest new coworking members as part of the nti Works graduate scheme.  Thanks to funding from the Economic Challenge Investment Fund (ECIF), 15 Leeds Metropolitan University graduates are taking advantage of 3 months sponsored membership of our coworking space, the Innovation Showcase at Old Broadcasting House, and a whole range of training and business support services to help them get started in the world of creative and digital business.  We are currently recruiting the second group of graduates to start in September - please see this link for details of how to apply. OpenCoffee August 2009

If you’re working in the creative or digital industries, we’d love you to come hang out, chat, demo or just network with others…usually around 25-30 people each month…sometimes more.

This month’s OpenCoffee is a little special. Just for this month, we’re relocating to The Round Foundry (http://www.roundfoundry.net/) meeting at 10am till 12pm.

Right after OpenCoffee, we’re planning a tour of the nearby Temple Works (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temple_Works), being redeveloped as a cultural locale for the city.

We’re hoping that the tour will help bootstrap some ideas on how the creative and digital sectors of the city can contribute to the development of Temple Works.
