nti welcomes iPhone Development course delegate from Australia
It’s official - our iPhone Apps Development course is the best in the world. Australian based mobile and web developer, Patrick Dockhorn from jTribe came to Old Broadcasting House to attend nti’s January iPhone Development course. Patrick used the web to seek out the course he was looking for, and after seeing what nti had to offer, he decided to travel over 10,000 miles to Leeds to take forward his plans to expand jTribe into new online and external revenue streams. Magpie Comms nominated for Sir Peter Thompson Award
Congratulations to Old Broadcasting House coworking members Gerard Savva and Becky Edlin, who joined the Innovation Showcase in September 2009 to develop their business. Since then, Magpie has produced high profile campaigns for clients such as the BBC, National Union of Students (NUS), as well as Universities and Students’ Unions across the country.
The duo also work with local businesses relying heavily on student-spend, and national charities who are looking to increase student involvement. Magpie’s hard work has recently paid off with a nomination for the prestigious Sir Peter Thompson Award for Enterprise and Business. (more…)

The Guardian Local launches the Leeds blog
A great coup for Leeds - the city is the first to be home to Guardian Local. The Guardian Local Leeds site is a collaborative community journalism initiative to provide local online news. We’re pleased to welcome Leeds Beatblogger, John Baron, and Guardian Local launch editor Sarah Hartley as our newest coworking members at Old Broadcasting House.
Guardian Local aims to explore new models for journalism and social engagement through a mix of reporting, collaboration engagement with local communities, organisations and groups and aggregation.
Check out their review of the Leeds Girl Geek Dinner on 11th February that featured two inspirational speakers from the games industry.

ExLs12 - Photo-shoot Special - 03/02/10
On Wednesday 3rd February at 6pm to 9pm, Exposure Leeds will be meeting at Old Broadcasting House with a special photography focus led by John Dolan. A beginners guide to Photoshop will give you some useful hits and tips about what to do with your photos once they have been taken. John and Mark Skeet will review the work-flow process once a shoot has been completed.
After the main presentations there will be a question and answer session, an opportunity for the group to discuss the many aspects of image selection and processing.

Coworker Aids Haiti Earthquake Victims
During December, Innovation Showcase coworker Tim Waters joined us here at Old Broadcasting House. Tim is a freelance geospatial developer and consultant who runs he’s own company called Think Where. Tim also volunteers with OpenStreetMap (OSM), a free editable map of the whole world. OSM allows users to view, edit and use geographical data in a collaborative way. (more…)

If successful in applying, you will be assigned a mentor to help you plan your professional development and you will also become a sponsored member of our pioneering coworking space at Old Broadcasting House, which will enable you to work alongside current members. During the time you are here you will be encouraged to get involved in the Leeds grass roots community, attending meetups, coffee events and evening presentations depending on your particular area of specialism (for example Open Coffee Leeds, Creative Networks, GeekUp Leeds, Barcamps, Hackspace etc) to start building your network of contacts which will be crucial to getting started. Open Coffee Mornings
If you’re working in the creative or digital industries, Old Broadcasting House will be opening it’s doors for you to come hang out, chat, demo or just network with others… usually around 25-30 people each month… sometimes more.
Tea, coffee and cakes are available from about 10am until 12pm. You are more than welcome to stay and chat as long as you like! This is a great opportunity to meet like-minded people within the creative, digital industries and network in a relaxed and friendly environment. Feel free to come along, Open Coffee is held on the first Tuesday of every month.

How to Find Us
Why not come and visit us here at Old Broadcasting House, 148 Woodhouse Lane, Leeds LS2 9EN. If you are driving, the nearest car park is the Woodhouse Lane NCP multi storey found at LS1 3HQ. Please be aware that the opening hours are 7am to 9pm Monday to Saturday.
If you are driving to an evening event here, you are advised not to park at the NCP as if you return after 9pm, your car will be locked in. Free parking is available afer 4:30 pm on weekdays opposite Old Broadcasting House at the Leeds Met and Leeds University staff car parks. (more…)

Where
Old Broadcasting House, has been the landmark for film production for decades. After many years as a base for the BBC, this listed building has been beautifully refurbished and represents a stunning coming together of history and technology. The building’s 21st century purpose is now to act as the focus of enterprise at Leeds Metropolitan University. (more…)
OpenCoffee December 2009
If you’re working in the creative or digital industries, Old Broadcasting House will be opening it’s doors for you to come hang out, chat, demo or just network with others… usually around 25-30 people each month… sometimes more.
On Tuesday 1st December, tea and coffee will be available from 10am til 12pm, and will include lots of Cake!

Apple News and New Courses
November has been a busy month for us moving over to the new Apple courses. The Snow 101 Support Essentials has become our current best seller, with November’s course full well in advance. If you haven’t already booked, we’ve got availibility in 2010. The first delivery of Snow 201 Server Essentials is happening on 30th November. We’ve also run the first couple of deliveries of the new Final Cut Pro 101 v7 course, welcoming back Chris Roberts to Old Broadcasting House. (more…)
Agile Yorkshire at Old Broadcasting House - 09/12/09
Agile Yorkshire have announced that the end of year special gathering will be held next month at Old Broadcasting House on Wednesday 9 December from 6.30pm onwards. Agile Yorkshire will gather together IT professionals in and around Yorkshire for a Christmas special with guest speaker David Joyce presenting on Kanban for Software Engineering, and how the principle of Kanban and Lean can also result in becoming Agile.
Discussion around extreme programming and agile methods amongst a host of other IT issues will feature as usual. (more…)

Ingres Open Day Workshop
On Wednesday 2nd December from 10am till 2pm, Ingres Corporation will be hosting an Open Source workshop. The leading provider of open source information management services, will present Mike Flower, the Director of Education at Ingres who will be hosting a FREE one day workshop at Old Broadcasting House. This is a unique opportunity for you to experience industry training and appreciate the application of technology. 
The workshop is open to everyone, and is of particular interest to those in areas related to:
- Databases
- Application Development
- OpenSOURCE
- JBOSS
Break out sessions to the Ingres products supporting these areas will be available.

Residents of all ages were invited to come and take part on Friday 9th October, in a completely free celebration of the city™s diverse and exciting arts scene.
