The end of an era
Tuesday 6th July 2010 may have gone unnoticed by many people as just another Tuesday (apologies to those for whom it’s a major anniversary!), but for the development of Digital Britain it was something of a milestone.
This date is when it became officially impossible to buy a new analogue TV set from a UK retailer. With the final analogue TV switch-off scheduled for 2012, clearly the change had to come some time and apparently last month (June) no sale of an analogue TV took place anywhere in the UK. (more…)

Green IT
Green IT is gaining momentum – but it is an area that is complicated by misinformation, tokenism (or ‘greenwashing’) from manufacturers/service providers and misperceptions among end users. At the moment the key driver for most organisations is cost saving, although the UK public sector has published carbon reduction targets for 2012 and 2020. Private sector enterprise now also has to make the choice between meeting carbon reduction targets or paying fines. (more…)

The placement period can vary from a few days to over a year and forms parts of the student’s academic qualification.
A student can add value to professional skills and a different perspective that address your business’ needs. This can involve the completion of a project you may have not previously had the time or resource to undertake.

Postgraduate Study Opportunities
Leeds Metropolitan’s Innovation North Faculty is offering some exciting Creative & Digital Postgraduate Study for January 2010. These include Music Technology, Sound Design, Games Design, Computing Animation, Digital Video & Special Effects, Creative Technology and Information Systems.
The aim is to challenge and support clients through projects derived from industry connections including staff, who are themselves practising creative technologists. (more…)
Echochroma V
Echochroma will be presenting an evening of electroacoustic music from 5pm on Monday 14th December.
Leeds Met Headingley Campus will be hosting the concert in the Jubilee Room, James Graham Building. Featured guest composers include Manuella Blackburn (MANTIS, Manchester University) and Dale Perkins (Leeds College of Music). Leeds Met Innovation North staff will also perform music, including Adam Stansbie, Nikos Stavropoulos and Stephen Kilpatrick.
All music will be performed using a 16-channel surround-sound diffusion system. This event has limited space so please arrive early to find an available seat.

Nokia - The OVI Store
On Tuesday 17 November 2009, Leeds Metropolitan University’s Rose Bowl hosted the opportunity to meet Nokia, the world’s largest mobile phone manufacturer. The event was organised by Screen Yorkshire and supported by Innovation North, Game Republic and The Leeds Business School. (more…)

On Wednesday 21 October, The Loft hosted the fifth gathering of Leeds Girl Geeks for our Girl Geek Dinner. The day got off to a great start with nti’s own Leia Bassett and Becky Edlin from Magpie Communications being invited on to the Radio Leeds breakfast show to explain what being a girl geek is all about. Throughout the week, Old Broadcasting House has hosted over 600 Leeds Met Innovation North third year students for the annual Innovation Camp. The week has attracted a variety of industry connections including award winning specialist digital agency MadeByPi who work with leading brands including Sony, Hallmark, ASDA and First Direct. Regional Enterprise Awards 2009
Yorkshire Venturefest 2009 was a day of activity for startups, wannabe entrepreneurs and more estabished businesses , investors and advisers. The Innovation Showcase 50 exhibtion hosted the most hotly tipped startups in the region, whilst the Unversity Showcase area brought together the startups from students and new graduates from our region’s universities.
