The end of an era

Tuesday 6th July 2010 may have gone unnoticed by many people as just another Tuesday (apologies to those for whom it’s a major anniversary!), but for the development of Digital Britain it was something of a milestone.

This date is when it became officially impossible to buy a new analogue TV set from a UK retailer. With the final analogue TV switch-off scheduled for 2012, clearly the change had to come some time and apparently last month (June) no sale of an analogue TV took place anywhere in the UK. (more…)

Mobile Manifest - 21st July 2010, 12:30 - 17:00

We’re pleased to be supporting this exciting event from Screen Yorkshire on the topical subject of Mobile Apps, which is being held at Barnsley’s Digital Media Centre on Wednesday 21st July.  We all love to use apps,  and with the growth of mobile web there are many key questions facing businesses -  such as:  are business models for apps working; how do I exploit apps to promote my business, and how do I get started?

This event is for developers, agencies, brands and individuals, and aims to help provide some of the answers to these questions, and many more, by putting you in touch with industry experts - both global players, and regional businesses who will share their experiences of developing apps.

To housekeep or not to housekeep?

It is quite common to see IT services being sold on the basis of unlimited supply of some resource – the current favourite seems to be email storage. At last, an end to the inconvenience of being barred from sending new email unless your stored email remains below some level, which is arbitrary and clearly insufficient for your needs. Of course, the “inbox full” popup always appears at the most inconvenient time, so what could be better than providing more space, keeping everyone happy. In a world of unlimited storage, where the cost per byte of storage is so low, what other solution could make sense? (more…)

Open Coffee Mornings

If you’re working in the creative or digital industries, Old Broadcasting House will be opening it’s doors for you to come hang out, chat, demo or just network with others… usually around 25-30 people each month… sometimes more.

Tea, coffee and cakes are available from about 10am until 12pm. You are more than welcome to stay and chat as long as you like! This is a great opportunity to meet like-minded people within the creative, digital industries and network in a relaxed and friendly environment. Feel free to come along, Open Coffee is held on the first Tuesday of every month.
