Girl Geek Dinner York
We’re pleased to confirm that the first ever Girl Geek Dinner York event will be taking place in the beautiful Grays Court Rooms in the city centre of York on 15th April. If you are working in or studying technology then you’re invited to what promises to be a fantastic evening with inspirational speakers and great networking opportunities.
Speaker Mary Vincent is the Founder and CEO of Green Star Solution, a Global Business, Technology, and Innovation Firm. She also runs a Clean Tech and Green Business News blog. Mary is based near San Francisco and is coming to the UK to talk in a number of locations as part of the Inspiring Women project which is jointly run by Girl Geek Dinners Leeds and Girl Geek Dinners Scotland.
Tickets cost £10 for food, wine and speakers. Boy Geeks are very welcome to attend too - you just need to be invited by a Girl Geek

The Girl Geek Dinner York is co-hosted by IT & Digital York, Digital 2020 and Pilot Theatre’s Shift Happens: ALT Shift.

Green IT Mini Conference
Green IT is gaining momentum, and already organisations are reporting a skills gap around areas such as the implementation of virtualisation and the building of a Green IT infrastructure. In response to the growing discussion facing Green IT, Old Broadcasting House hosted a Green IT mini conference on Monday 18th January. The day included guest speakers from Helen Harrop (Digital 20/20), Colin Coghill (formerly University of Leeds) and Leeds Met’s Innovation North Professor Colin Pattinson. The three main questions posed were, what does “green” really mean? Why be Green? How to be Green? Each was discussed in 15 minute presentations and a debate with the speaker panel. (more…)

Uncovering Thinking Digital
What have I learned at Thinking Digital? There™s a lot here and its only lunchtime on the first day. We arrived yesterday afternoon to attend Thinking Digital University. I got the Techbus up from Old Broadcasting House, which was great fun. This was a seriously well-equipped bus “ wireless, coffee, kitchen with fridge and sink, TV and best of all great company.
