The Innovation Showcase Exhibition

Check out this press release from Digital 20/20 about our fantastic Innovation Showcase Exhibition on 30th January:

Inventors, sound designers and web creators were just some of the talent that gathered at nti’s recent interactive exhibition to show why coworking is the way forward for the creative and digital industries.

The Innovation Showcase Exhibition gave its members an opportunity to show off their business ideas to potential employers and to show final year university students that working in a supportive environment, surrounded by likeminded creative people can help turn an idea into reality.

An exciting mix of freelancers, small companies and collaborations showcased their work including a creative take on Johnny Chung Lee’s WiiMote software, FriiSpray.

FriiSpray was born out of a collaboration between Stuart Childs (also of sound design and sonic branding agency, Outpost North), freelance designer and inventor, Dave Lynch and freelance developer Richard Garside. Based on the WiiMote Whiteboard software, FriiSpray is an interactive media installation, allowing users to create their own unique digital graffiti. Visitors were able to get hands on with FriiSpray, realising for themselves the potential of this exciting creation.

Richard Garside also demonstrated a model of The Cardboard Laptop Stand a lightweight, foldable and portable stand for a laptop, together with co-creator Deb Bassett. The Cardboard Laptop Stand is designed for people who spend a lot of time in front of a laptop and can help to avoid back pain. This unique product is made of 100% recyclable materials and Richard was able to generate a lot of interest at the event.

Also exhibiting was Creode, a web design company established by two Leeds University Graduates, James Hannaford and Luke Harrison. The pair have recently been named winner of the prestigious Leeds University’s Business Plan Competition and are now looking forward to competing against other University winners in the regional finals at Venturefest. They showed off an innovative portfolio of work consisting of branding, print work and web design which maintains a strong focus on accessibility standards.

Kensei Media, Future Arts and Nicelysliced were also exhibiting at the event.

Leia Bassett, Sector Officer for the Digital Industries at nti Leeds, believes that events like the Innovation Showcase Exhibition are excellent opportunities to encourage people who are considering starting up their own business. She says,

“We have some amazing minds here from totally different creative backgrounds and when they blend together they form some really interesting ideas. Events like this are so exciting because they show people that surrounding yourself with other creative minds can really help to shape and evolve your ideas.”
