Northern Design Competition 2009
This year’s Northern Design Competition, run by Leeds Met, was launched at the University during an event at Old Broadcasting House. The formal gathering included representatives from sponsors including Yorkshire Forward and the BBC.
The competition’s 2008 winner in the Digital Media category, Leeds Met graduate Kristyna Baczynkski made an appearance and commented, “The benefits of having a design competition with its roots firmly up north are abundantly clear to me. Northern Design provides students with an arena to show their talents to masses of professionals and peers - all invaluable advisors and potential employers.”
Now in its fourth year, the Northern Design Competition was praised for highlighting the wealth of talent the north has to offer. A BBC spokesman highlighted the support that the competition has received from the likes of Innovation North’s very own John Lynch, in establishing itself as one of the region’s premier contests for up and coming designers. Wayne Hemingway, the founder of fashion label Red or Dead, is heading the competition’s judging panel as the search for the cream of the north’s design talent begins.
