iPhone taster evening

Thirty people came to Old Broadcasting House on the evening of 22nd February 2011 to find out how to develop an iPhone app from expert developer and trainer Dave Verwer, of Shiny Development. Dave is in great demand worldwide so we're always pleased to see him back in Leeds to teach the iPhone apps development course img_0151 The evening started with Dave presenting to the audience who'd all brought along their Macbooks with the SDK installed. Some had been caught out by the time it had taken to download the SDK - it's huge! Dave's talk started with a general overview of the development process and the environment,  then moved on to  building an app. Everyone then had the opportunity to develop an app for themselves (Blue-Peter style) with  Dave on hand to answer questions. Old Broadcasting House coworker, apps developer  Tim Medcalf also helped out, which meant that everyone was able to make good progress.

Some of our visitors came along to find out more about the course and whether it was right for them so meeting Dave face-to face in this environment proved an ideal way to do this.  Dave's very clear and conversational style of presenting is ideal for communicating complex information and he's able to make people feel at ease. His knowledge of this subject is truly world class which means he can answer whatever question comes up. It was great to welcome back former coworkers Deb Bassett,  David Smalley and Dom 'The Hodge'  Hodgson. Dom had taken time out from his hectic Think Visibility conference planning schedule to come along.  Hope the conference goes well Dom - it's come a long way since the first one at Old Broadcasting House. Some visitors stayed for a tour of the coworking space and training facilities, whilst others headed home.  Thanks to everyone for coming along and taking part. We'd also like to thank Dave for a great presentation, and Tim for helping out. We're planning to do more events like this, which give you a chance to experience what we do here at nti Leeds and visit Old Broadcasting House.  If there's something in our portfolio that you'd like to suggest for a 'taster',  or if you'd like to get advance notice of upcoming events like this, then let us know. Latest news 1/3/2011 - We're now running a similar event for Android - more details here img_0139
