Outpost North’s Chris Martin gave me a glimpse of his journey since exhibiting his work at his final year Innovation North Showcase and some of the outcomes that have come out of being based at Old Broadcasting House coworking space. 

Since showcasing their work, Stuart Child and Chris Martin have successfully established their very own sound design company, Outpost North. The Innovation North Showcase 2008 provided great opportunites for networking with businesses and asking questions before setting about starting out. The first year of running a business can often be the most challenging, but seeking out financial support from Business Startup and Business Link have proven to provide a solid foundation to launch themselves from.  

Strategically positioned at Old Broadcasting House in nti Leeds coworking space has provided many opportunities for them to connect with new business. It is a vibrant collaberating space that has allowed for new initiatives to start like FriiSpray, a virtual graffiti screen that uses a WiiRemote and a spray can with a infra red LED. 

As Outpost North looks to expand itself further, Chris tells me about potential paths for them to go down that include online podcasting. I asked Outpost North “what other projects do you currently have on at the minute?” Their response explained that over the last few months as Business Link launched Innovation Vouchers, Outpost North’s application was successfully received with the view to increase marketing and customer services. Huddersfield University’s Jonathan Wakefield who works in music and sound, has been chosen to create the new pioneering sound software. The aim is for the software to demonstrate Outpost North’s audio sound to potential clients.
