5th Leeds Girl Geek Dinner 21/10/09
The Loft will once again be hosting the Leeds Girl Geek Dinner on Wednesday 21st October with support from nti Leeds‘ Linda Broughton and Carbon Imagineering™s Imran Ali. For just £15 you can enjoy food, drinks and the chance to hang out with the city™s brightest female creatives, technologists, programmers, entrepreneurs, marketeers and PR professionals.
Guest Speakers for the evening include Christine Morris and Sarah Hartley, in addition to a screening of film from the Her Code study by Orange Labs in San Francisco, which brings together a series of interviews with women in leadership positions across Silicon Valley.
With a healthy obsession for technology, Christine Morris is always after the latest trends and research in the creative and digital field, hoping to explore it further. Christine will be talking about her current project Apps and Hats - a quirky iPhone application review show, created only a few months after the app store launched.
Sarah Hartley is a digital editor for the Guardian and has been an online journalist since 2000. She blogs about the evolution of journalism, social media and online communities, as well as the Media Guardian™s PDA blog. Sarah is also particularly interested in journalism training and development and has run courses in all aspects of online content production, blogging and multimedia for organisations in Britain and oversees ranging from NATO to NCTJ journalism colleges.
We’re also really excited to be launching the new ‘Inspiring Women’ project at this event, brought to you by the UK Resource Centre for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology, the West Yorkshire Lifelong Learning Network, Leeds Girl Geek Dinners and Girl Geek Scotland. This new project will work with inspiring women across the world to create podcasts and interactive learning materials to help inspire young women in education who aspire to a career within the SET industries.
