Creative Collision - where the games and film industries meet
On Thursday 3rd December, GameHorizon and Northern Film & Media will present Creative Collision - where the games and film industries meet. The collaborative event will be held at the International Centre for Life, Times Square, Newcastle, starting at 5.30pm.
More and more videogame developers are starting to expand beyond simply making games, and branching into the lucrative film and television work. Creative Collision will explore how you can take advantage of these growing opportunities.
Come and hear top talks from Gareth Edmondson, Simon Pytherch and Steve Walmsley, and meet the individuals behind the industry at the post-event party at The Other Rooms in Newcastle. An audience of around 100 people are expected to attend from the games and film industries, so book your place today!
Confirmed speakers
Gareth Edmondson, Studio Manager at Ubisoft Reflections. The Newcastle studio of one of the world’s biggest games companies, Ubisoft Reflections has produced some of the most successful titles in the history of videogaming, and is now looking at how the company’s skills can expand into other media.
Simon Pytherch, CEO of Lightning Fish. Lightning Fish titles use video-based actors (as opposed to computer-generated avatars) to make their games more approachable with all the personality and realism of a human being.
They have their own ‘green screen’ TV studio adjacent to their development studio which allows them to shoot footage for use in their games. And with the use of camera-based motion tracking devices such as Project Natal, the video actors allow for easy integration with the user images.
Steve Walmsley, managing director of Mere-Mortals. Having worked on a number of award-winning films and videogames, including Slumdog Millionnaire, Mere Mortals are perhaps the exemplar of how a modern media company can work across media to get the best of all worlds.
