Day 1

Lesson Description

1 Workspace Understand the interface and know how to customise it as you need. Know how to access and use different workspaces

2 Importing Assets You will learn how to get your assets into After Effects ready to work with and how to keep an organised project panel and assemble your assets in compositions.

3 Animating Assets Learn about keyframes, the different type, and how to use them to produce animation within your compositions including paths and how to make objects orient along paths and how to select, edit and duplicate keyframes. Learn about keyframes, the different type, and how to use them to produce animation within your compositions including paths and how to make objects orient along paths and how to select, edit and duplicate keyframes

4 Shape Layers Shape layers (added in CS3) are a great way to produce custom assets within AE. Learn about shape layers, how to customise and animate them and control vector shapes in After Effects

5 Layers Learn about the various types of layers within After Effects and begin to see some of the possibilities! Replace footage, set in and out points for the layers and composition and how to ensure After Effects interprets the footage you give it properly

6 Parenting, Introduction to Effects and playing with Time Start to explore the options in After Effects to link layers together, add and edit effects and how to play with time

Day 2

Lesson Description

1 Introduction to Colour Correcting See how powerful the colour correction tools are within After Effects as well as have a brief introductory look at one of the major plug-in programmes that ships with After Effects - 'Colour Finesse'

2 Text and Motion Graphics Explore the text tools within After Effects and how to use them in an efficient way to produce stunning motion graphics quickly

3 Masks and Mattes Understand how to create and use masks and mattes to remove unwanted items and to reveal or hide parts of your compositions

4 Keying A basic introduction to colour keying including animating masks, removing background colours and creating a good quality matte

5 Tracking Motion & Stabilising Footage Learn how to use After Effects own motion tracking and stabilisation tools to track an object and add dynamic text and stabilise some shaky footage

6 Output Learn how to output your creation from After Effects both for pier-review and for your client. Learn how to create output templates to save time

7 Other As well as all the above we will be touching on 'The Puppet Tool', 'Fractal Noise', 'Blending Modes', 'Motion Sketch', 'Parenting', 'Paint', 'Card Wipe', 'Graph Editor', the new 'Roto Brush Tool' and lots more
