We’re holding an open evening on Wednesday 21st  July so you can come along and meet Old Broadcasting House coworkers. The event starts at 6pm and closes at 8pm. Guests are invited to come along and meet our members in an informal, relaxed setting. Find out what they brilliantly do, see their work, and consider how their specialist talents could add to your business.

Mobile Manifest - 21st July 2010, 12:30 - 17:00

We’re pleased to be supporting this exciting event from Screen Yorkshire on the topical subject of Mobile Apps, which is being held at Barnsley’s Digital Media Centre on Wednesday 21st July.  We all love to use apps,  and with the growth of mobile web there are many key questions facing businesses -  such as:  are business models for apps working; how do I exploit apps to promote my business, and how do I get started?

This event is for developers, agencies, brands and individuals, and aims to help provide some of the answers to these questions, and many more, by putting you in touch with industry experts - both global players, and regional businesses who will share their experiences of developing apps.

Girl Geek Dinner Leeds - 13/05/2010

We’re very pleased to announce the second of this years Leeds Girl Geek Dinners which will take place on Thursday 13th May at the City Inn, a swanky new waterfront hotel in Granary Wharf Leeds. The evening will start with networking at 7.30pm-10.30pm.

The evening speakers will include Joscelyn Upendran, the co-founder and CEO of lovle which is a learning and training software & services company. She is also involved in Creative Commons UK as the Public Project Lead for England & Wales, which involves raising awareness about Creative Commons. Prior to this, Joscelyn worked as a commercial lawyer in private practice for a number of years before she commenced a career in higher and further education, training lawyers, accountants and mangers. LSx2010: An evening with Twitter’s Raffi Krikorian

Raffi Krikorian will be speaking about his career in technology and innovation, working as a hacker, writer, and a tinkerer. Most recently, he has become a member of the API/Platform team at Twitter. He is also authoring the forthcoming book “re:sources”.

Raffi has worked for MIT’s Media Lab, written for O’Reilly Media, founding an R&D lab and working for Twitter in Silicon Valley. Previously, he was a co-founder in WattzOn.com - which was named by Business Week as the “Best Idea” in 2008. (more…)

Leeds Metropolitan University’s, Innovation North  - Faculty of Information & Technology is delighted to invite you to the 15th anniversary of the annual showcase of undergraduate student work in the areas of:

This will provide you with the opportunity to view innovative student work and meet the people behind it through a series of exhibitions, presentations and performances.

The showcase will be held on Thursday 13th May 2010 with daytime viewings, 2.00pm - 4.30pm, and evening viewings, 5.00pm - 8.00pm at James Graham, Headingley Campus, LS6 3PS.

All budding landscape photographer’s will be delighted to know that Exposure Leeds is to present Tim Parkin. Tim produces some simply stunning landscape photogaphy with his understanding of form and light.

To gain greater insight into his amazing work, come along on Wednesday 7th April, 6pm to 9pm at Old Broadcasting House to listen to Tim talk about his ideas, experience and portfolio. Girl Geek Dinner York

We’re pleased to confirm that the  first ever Girl Geek Dinner York event will be taking place in the beautiful Grays Court Rooms in the city centre of York on 15th April. If you are working in or studying technology then you’re invited to what promises to be a fantastic evening with inspirational speakers and great networking opportunities. 

Speaker Mary Vincent is the Founder and CEO of Green Star Solution, a Global Business, Technology, and Innovation Firm. She also runs a Clean Tech and Green Business News blog. Mary is based near San Francisco and is coming to the UK to talk in a number of locations as part of the Inspiring Women project which is jointly run by Girl Geek Dinners Leeds and Girl Geek Dinners Scotland. 

Tickets cost £10 for food, wine and speakers.  Boy Geeks are very welcome to attend too - you just need to be invited by a Girl Geek

Talk About Local

Talk About Local is a project to give people in their communities a powerful online voice. Old Broadcasting House is now home to The Guardian Local project, and on Saturday 17th April an Un-Conference is to be held in partnership with Talk About Local here in Leeds. A similar event was held in Stoke-on-Trent during October and we will be using the Un-Conference format in the hope to have some of the very best hyperlocal publishers and special guests attending on the day.

Come and discuss new ways to develop your arts business practice, sharing, networking and developing your ideas, with help from the Arts Council, Business Link Yorkshire and the West Yorkshire Lifelong Learning Network (WYLLN). This is your opportunity to share best practice and explore new ideas for developing your arts business with your peers.

This is a facilitated discussion event where everyone will have the opportunity to contribute and decide on the priorities for each session. As Chairman & Worldwide Creative Director of Bartle Bogle Hegarty (BBH), where he presides over one of the most successful and creatively acclaimed agencies of all time, Sir John has been responsible for some of the most celebrated ad campaign’s – from the 1982 Levi’s advert featuring the infamous Nick Kamen stripping off in laundrette, through to the more recent and blockbusting Lynx effect campaign.
