Postgraduate Study Opportunities
Leeds Metropolitan’s Innovation North Faculty is offering some exciting Creative & Digital Postgraduate Study for January 2010. These include Music Technology, Sound Design, Games Design, Computing Animation, Digital Video & Special Effects, Creative Technology and Information Systems.

MediaCityUK’s High Speed BT Network
MediaCityUK have announced their plan’s to connect businesses and residents to one of the most advanced communications networks in the world when the first phase of the £500 million complex is completed in 2011.
Peel Media, the developers and owners of MediaCityUK, today awarded a multi-million pound, five-year communications and IT contract to BT Business, the division of BT Retail that serves the UK’s small and medium-sized businesses. (more…)

Animated Music Videos
On Tuesday 8th December from 6.30pm till late, Animated Yorkshire will be hosting an event at the Leeds College of Art to discuss what does make a great animated music video?
Ashley Dean from Broken Pixel Animation will talk about his ideas of how music and animation can come together to show of your work. All are welcomed to join in, so bring along your favourite animated music video to discuss. (more…)

Transmission 3: Tales from the Front-Line of Mobile Innovation
Transmission is a series of inspiring evenings, that explore innovation in the digital industry. The interactive format includes keynotes, case-studies, discussions and hands-on tech demos.
On Thursday 28th January from 5.45pm, Northwest Vision and Media will host the third of the Transmission series - ”Device & Conquer: Tales from the front-line of mobile innovation”. The third event in the Transmissions series will be exploring the innovation of mobile devices - the next frontier of connective technologies and the platform for the new decade. (more…)
Echochroma V
Echochroma will be presenting an evening of electroacoustic music from 5pm on Monday 14th December.
Leeds Met Headingley Campus will be hosting the concert in the Jubilee Room, James Graham Building. Featured guest composers include Manuella Blackburn (MANTIS, Manchester University) and Dale Perkins (Leeds College of Music). Leeds Met Innovation North staff will also perform music, including Adam Stansbie, Nikos Stavropoulos and Stephen Kilpatrick.
All music will be performed using a 16-channel surround-sound diffusion system. This event has limited space so please arrive early to find an available seat.

Wordpress Wins CMS Award
Wordpress has recently won Overall Best Open Source CMS Award in the Open Source CMS Awards 2009.
“This is a landmark for us, as it is the first time we’ve won this award. It marks a shift in the public perception of Wordpress, from blog software to full-featured Content Management System (CMS).” (more…)
Accidental Leaders and Managers Programme
Inspiral is teaming up with the world’s leading digital media and leadership educator, Hyper Island, to run two unique training courses in Yorkshire & Humber throughout January and February 2010. GeekUp Leeds
GeekUp Leeds and the Northern Bloggers will be holding a Christmas Party for all web designers, web developers, and other tech-minded people. Food and entertainment will lead up to the special surprise on the night.

OpenCoffee December 2009
If you’re working in the creative or digital industries, Old Broadcasting House will be opening it’s doors for you to come hang out, chat, demo or just network with others… usually around 25-30 people each month… sometimes more.
On Tuesday 1st December, tea and coffee will be available from 10am til 12pm, and will include lots of Cake!

BBC’s Hunt For Northern Digital Talent
The BBC has launched a fresh opportunity for new and established digital agencies and producers in the North.
As the move to Salford in 2011 approaches, the BBC Children™s television department is looking to commission four projects that will total £500,000. @North will encourage and support the development and delivery of interactive content for children. (more…)

November has been a busy month for us moving over to the new Apple courses. The Snow 101 Support Essentials has become our current best seller, with November’s course full well in advance. If you haven’t already booked, we’ve got availibility in 2010. The first delivery of Snow 201 Server Essentials is happening on 30th November. Who’s the DADI?
Digital Week ended on a high with the DADI Awards 2009, held at the Royal Armouries in Leeds on Friday 13th November. The evening was a celebration of digital excellence across the nation.
The keynote speech was given by Tom Loosemore, Head of 4iP, who encouraged the present accessibility of online media including social platforms like Twitter and the UK favourite Facebook. A 3 course dinner followed that included wine, entertainment and the all important presentation of the awards. So who would be crowned the DADI? (more…)

Agile Yorkshire at Old Broadcasting House - 09/12/09
Agile Yorkshire have announced that the end of year special gathering will be held next month at Old Broadcasting House on Wednesday 9 December from 6.30pm onwards. Agile Yorkshire will gather together IT professionals in and around Yorkshire for a Christmas special with guest speaker David Joyce presenting on Kanban for Software Engineering, and how the principle of Kanban and Lean can also result in becoming Agile.

Creative Collision - where the games and film industries meet
On Thursday 3rd December, GameHorizon and Northern Film & Media will present Creative Collision - where the games and film industries meet. The collaborative event will be held at the International Centre for Life, Times Square, Newcastle, starting at 5.30pm.
